New needle gripper from Schmalz: Picked up instead of sucked in
The needle gripper from Schmalz for large-area challenges has a modular design and can be individually configured.
Large surfaces and porous are a challenging combination of properties in manual handling. While J. Schmalz GmbH normally relies on vacuum, this time a positive gripping principle is used: the new needle gripper from the vacuum expert extends up to 80 needles to safely lift and transport air-permeable components such as softwood fibreboards with an ideal insertion angle and optimised needle arrangement. Its robust and lightweight aluminium construction is modular and can thus be individually adapted to different applications and workpiece formats.
Carries up to 100 kilograms
The needle gripper consists of two or four needle modules, each with a counter-rotating needle position, and a pneumatic control system - including a safety module. The nature of the material determines the maximum load: since each individual module carries up to 25 kilograms, the needle gripper lifts a total maximum weight of 50 or 100 kilograms - depending on the number of modules. A workpiece can be lifted from a thickness of 20 mm. The vacuum specialist supplies the new gripper with a connection disk that fits the JumboErgo. A connection to the quick-change adapter or a chain hoist is optionally available.
Where so many tips are involved, Schmalz pays particular attention to safety for the user: the gripper detects whether it has a workpiece under the needles, the operator has to confirm the release of the load twice, and switching flags always show the position of the metal tips.
A strong team: needle grippers and JumboErgo complement each other to form the ideal lever solution for numerous applications.
